Bonus Wagering Requirements Explained

Featured Brand with No Wagering Requirements

The term ‘wagering requirement’ refers to the minimum amount that has to be wagered before withdrawing any winnings generated from bonus money wagers. This is not to be confused with winnings made from cash deposits, for which there aren’t usually any wagering requirements.

This can often be a complex and misunderstood topic but we will try and make it simple with some examples. Let’s say you signed up to Sing Bingo and got the currently offered £10 free without depositing. You would then have a good chance to play bingo and if you were lucky enough to win you would only be able to withdraw the winnings made from your free £10 wagers provided you met the wagering requirements. In the case of Sing Bingo the wagering requirement is 4 x the amount of the free bonus money + deposits (if any). So let’s say you won £10 from the free money you would not be able to withdraw the £10 until you had wagered and/or deposited a cumulative £40. If after wagering/depositing £40 you still had the £10 left in your account then you would be able to withdraw it. Also, unlike most other sites Sing allow you to cash out before you have met the wagering requirements but if you do any bonus money you have left in your account will be forfeited. Another interesting point with Sing is that before a deposit is made they do not allow any winnings over £100 to be claimed. If you deposited before that and won with bonus money wagers then you are entitled to all winnings of any value.

Sing Bingo are really quite fair with their wagering requirements and they do make it reasonably easy to withdraw the winnings a player makes with the bonus money provided they do go on to become an ongoing customer. There are many cases where operators impose 15x or 20x wagering requirements and they simply make it near impossible to get hold of bonus money wins unless you go on a real lucky streak or make substantial deposits. On the other hand there are a few sites such as Betfred Bingo and Paddy Power Bingo that have no wagering requirements and treat wins from bonus money and deposits the same; it can be withdrawn with no strings attached.

This should illustrate how much of a complex area wagering requirements are and they do vary considerably from site to site so we recommend that players should always read the bonus terms and conditions. We also recommend that players should perceive bonus money as a free way to test out a site for real without risking their own money.

In our opinion there is nothing wrong with operators imposing wagering requirements on bonus money wins as the winnings are won with free money to start with.

The concept of free money without requiring a deposit is a solid win-win offer as it allows players to see if the site is for them and also takes the operator one step closer to marketing their site to a potential depositing player that has already tested it out. It isn’t really free money though and shouldn’t be thought of as such. What it is though is a free real money test drive.
